Note from the Editor of 7Visions Magazine: Today, we continue our On Wednesdays We Rock Letters series as a tribute to our National Founders, their legacies and the tradition of wearing red letters on Wednesdays as a homage to the Seven Visionary Men who founded our brotherhood at Texas Tech University on Wednesday November 25th, 1987. Throughout the year, we will feature a colony or chapter that is excelling and living their oath through their work on their respective campus and surrounding community. Each entity featured herein is living their values and ensuring that Omega Delta Phi’s legacy is preserved and continued.

On this edition of our On Wednesdays We Rock Letters blog post, we proudly feature the Alpha Upsilon Chapter at the University of Florida.

Alpha Upsilon Chapter (AY)

The University of Florida, Gainesville, FL.

Chartered at UF: April 3rd, 2009.

Chapter Chant: In the works.

Greek Council: Multicultural Greek Council, one of three historically Latino/Culturally based fraternities on the campus in conjunction with a South Asian interest fraternity. The council consists of 14 member organizations.

Campus Presence: The brothers at Alpha Upsilon remain committed to serving the Gainesville community and the UF student body. Brother Nathan Morales serves on the University of Florida Student Conduct Committee, Brother Trung Tran serves as Assistant Director of Gatorship, a program designed to promote social justice, social awareness, and diversity education. Many brothers from the Alpha Upsilon chapter have dedicated their efforts to this organization throughout the years. Other brothers are involved with on campus organizations or causes such as Gators March for Babies, the Asian American Student Association, the Multicultural Affairs Hispanic and Latino Affairs Office, UF Orchestra, Medlife, . Brother Gabriel Costa works with an organization called Minds of Melody which teaches music and performs for those suffering from dementia in nursing homes. Brother Timothy Nguyen volunteers part of his time at the UF Shands Hospital. Brother Esteban Gonzalez, current chapter president, serves as a UF Cicerone, a prestigious and re-known organization that allows students to serve as ambassadors to the University of Florida. He is also an intern for the Multicultural Affairs office on campus.

Interesting Fact: We are the first chapter of Omega Delta Phi in the Southeast and in the Sunshine State. After tireless work and preparation, the colonies at neighboring University of West Florida and Auburn University were chartered in 2016, joining the Alpha Upsilon chapter to formally establish the Southeast Region.

Chapter Traditions: As a chapter We participate in the #EndItMovement to raise awareness to human trafficking by putting on events to foster awareness. We are invested in social justice and have promoted things like sexual health, sustainability, LGBTQ+ and intersectionality awareness, and even ending child abuse (which is why we work closely with the local Child Advocacy Center which is a non-profit organization that provides resources to victims of child abuse).

Region: We are the first chapter in the Southeast Region and had the privilege of serving as a big brother/mentor chapter to the University of West Florida founding line whose colonization and founder’s program was administered by our alumni and undergraduate membership.
