Brother Manny Abarca Enters Public Office in Kansas City

Brother Manny Abarca IV was elected on Tuesday as the Committeeman of Kansas City’s 12th Ward. Abarca became a member of Omega Delta Phi in Spring 2008 at the former Missouri State Colony. The newly elected committeeman also volunteers at U.S. House of Representative Office Emanuel Cleaver II as a deputy director.

“In a time when people of color are being challenged by so much, we must rise up, unite and fight for what we deserve, Abarca said.  “This is a small victory, but a win for this diverse community. I am truly honored to serve.”

The commiteeman role entails voter registration, voter education, and fundraising for his political party. Abarca said he plans to make it more of a community engagement role.

“I am going to focus on truly engaging the community around issues that we define together. Engagement is key, because I got more likes on my facebook announcement than votes on election day!” he said.

“We must register and vote like our lives depend on it. That is the only way to send a clear message to city hall, our state capital and in the halls of congress. It’s time to wake up the sleeping giant!”
