Las Vegas, NV- The Alpha Phi Chapter at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas is launching an effort to raise funds for their annual philanthropic Miss Silver Rose Pageant. The event is put on by the UNLV chapter and the proceeds are donated to assist the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Foundation of Las Vegas.
This is the sixth edition of the event which has been put on at other entities such as Alpha Eta Chapter at University of New Mexico where it has become a staple and tradition of the chapter. Alumnus Sam Lee brought Miss Silver Rose to Alpha Phi and the chapter has hosted this event annually since its inception.
According to the philanthropy packet that the chapter has disseminated to UNLV organizations, departments, and members of the community, “We are hoping to build a stronger connection with the CASA Foundation by committing to a fundraising goal minimum of $20,000 through sponsorship’s, raising money from the community, while building awareness and advocacy”.
The CASA Foundation of Las Vegas was established in June 1983 and has since spearheaded efforts to ensure that the needs of children caught up in foster care and custody battles are met. According to the sponsorship packet, “Over the years, the CASA Foundation has added another component to their mission, which is to address the many unmet needs of children in foster care. This includes items such as medical needs, transportation costs for visits with family members, summer camps, sports, music lessons, and tutoring. The CASA Foundation is committed to making a difference in the lives of children in foster care in Southern Nevada”.
The Miss Silver Rose Pageant is a philanthropic pageant where judges award points for different portions of the competition. The event will kickoff at 6:00 PM with a mixer where attendees will be able to enjoy light refreshments and view the contestant’s crates.
Contestants will be judged on creativity, talent, philanthropy, as well as social media presence. The competition includes a lip singing portion, a stroll portion where contestants are tasked with creating a unique and hype stroll, as well as a crate decorating competition.
The end goal of the competition is raising money for the CASA Foundation of Las Vegas as well as raising awareness about the work that they do for the children of Southern Nevada who are caught up in foster care or are entrenched in custody battles. CASA serves children who are victims of abuse, neglect, or who are simply caught up in the legal system by no fault of their own.
It is the hope of the Alpha Phi chapter that the needs of the children receiving services through the CASA Foundation of Las Vegas and that the Ms. Silver Rose Scholarship Pageant will bring much needed awareness to an organization that ODPhi has partnered with in the past and had much success with in philanthropic efforts.
